Broadcasting a Reflection
Updated on May 27th, 2021
Today FRIENDS is releasing Broadcasting a Reflection, a new report that explores Canada's cultural distinctiveness and the future of Canadian cultural policies in the digital age. The report demonstrates that existing "Canadian content" regulations have been insufficient in producing programming that reflects Canada's qualitative cultural aspects.
The report argues that in addition to industrial considerations, the criteria used to define "Canadian content" should be enhanced to include more decipherable qualitative aspects of programming, such as locations and people, their interests, histories and concerns.
