As a new sun rises over another week of COVID-19 lockdowns, the whole team at FRIENDS is excited to launch a new project that aims to make our days a bit brighter: Tell Our Stories Together.
Self-isolation is the new normal. For musicians, comedians, and other performers whose work depends on a public audience, these are especially trying times. As we navigate this unfamiliar terrain, we turn to music, poetry and movies to soothe our anxious minds and stay connected to one another. We need our artists, and their artistry, now more than ever.
FRIENDS wants to keep you connected to Canadian artists, and to support those who have been hard-hit by widespread cancellations of concerts and events. You may recognize some of their faces while others may be new, but they're all stepping up to lift our spirits.
Here are highlights from our Tell our Stories Together Music videos.
Regardless of whether you’re working, diving deeper into a hobby, caring for a loved one or finding other ways to occupy your time, it's a hard thing to not be able to go out and socialize with friends and family. Let journalist, podcaster and musician Vish Khanna and his two children cheer you up with their cover of Neil Young’s "Don’t Cry No Tears" from their basement in Edmonton.

We're lucky indeed in this country to have so many artists generously sharing their works, to uplift Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Toronto's own Freeman Dre and The Kitchen Party share a song called "Saint Augustine," an intimate live show filmed in their own home.
Practicing self-isolation might be giving some of us a case of cabin fever. Thankfully, Brian Finley, Artistic Director at the Westben Centre for Connection & Creativity through Music has produced a piano prelude that sketches the beauty of our country, to help us travel while staying put.
