Addresses Canadian culture and content, the CBC, and media concentration

Overview

Ipsos-Reid polled 1,100 Canadians to gauge public opinion toward Canadian broadcasting. Major findings include:

  • Canadians are proud of their culture and believe government must help promote it, but are worried about our ability to control our own affairs
  • Canadians believe Canadian programming and the CBC are vital to preserving our culture and identity
  • Canadians believe the CBC is doing well in meeting its public mandate, and favour maintaining or increasing the public broadcaster’s funding.
  • Canadians are cautiously confident in the media to present balanced coverage, but believe the government should address media convergence
