All-Candidates' Forum in Burnaby
FRIENDS is hosting an all-candidates’ forum in Burnaby South Candidates will debate the threat that Facebook and other web giants pose to democracy, and the role CBC can play to fortify the truth.
Voters in Burnaby South will head to the polls on February 25th to elect a new member of Parliament, following the resignation of their former MP, Kennedy Stewart, who resigned to become Mayor of Vancouver.
We’re barely 9 months away from the next federal election, so this by-election provides a fantastic opportunity for the parties to weigh in on a crucial issue: the threat that Facebook and other unregulated web giants pose to Canadian democracy. We’ll also be asking for their views on how CBC can be equipped to defend the truth in Canada.
The event is free to attend and open to the public. We invite all FRIENDS supporters in the area to attend.

Jagmeet Singh
Leader of the federal NDP
Jagmeet Singh was elected leader of the New Democratic Party on October 1st of 2017. Singh is the first person of a visible minority group to lead a Canadian federal political party. From 2011 to 2017, Singh represented Bramalea—Gore—Malton in the Ontario Legislative Asembly. Before entering politics, Singh worked as a criminal defence lawyer.

Jay’s family moved to Canada at an early age where Jay worked for his family’s grocery store. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, UBC with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering, and York University with a Master of Business Administration; and after working briefly in industry, continued his education at UBC to graduate with an LL.B. (Bachelor of Laws).
Richard Lee
Liberal Party Candidate
Richard Lee was born in People's Republic of China in 1954. From 2001 to 2017, Lee was an MLA representing Burnaby North. For the last two years of his tenure, Lee was Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.

Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson, a TV host, author, and speaker. In 2018, she ran for a position on the Burnaby School Board.
