Online Harm: Protecting Canadian Democracy in the Age of Social Media

Online incivility and harassment are having a negative impact on elected officials and their ability to connect virtually with constituents. Nearly 500 supporters tuned in to hear Liberal MP Iqra Khalid, NDP MP Charlie Angus, and Conservative MP Bob Zimmer talk about how online incivility effects their role as public servants, in a special panel presented by FRIENDS and The Samara Centre for Democracy. UBC researchers Chris Tenove and Heidi Tworek also presented their research findings on the different forms of online incivility experienced by candidates on the 2019 election campaign trail.

The panel was on February 11, 2021.
