FRIENDS’ intervention at the CRTC hearing

FRIENDS Executive Director Daniel Bernhard, Board Chair Aritha van Herk and Vice-Chair Raymonde Lavoie appeared before the CRTC as official intervenors in the CBC license renewal process on January 18, 2021. Speaking from Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal respectively, Daniel, Aritha, and Raymonde urged the CRTC to hold CBC accountable to its public mandate. Daniel reminded the CRTC that the CBC/Radio-Canada is a vital service that ties millions of Canadians together. Thousands of FRIENDS supporters and loyal CBC fans worry that the CBC they know and love is fast disappearing due to chronic underfunding and management decisions that undermine the CBC’s vital public service orientation. Several FRIENDS supporters will also give their testimonies in front of the CRTC in the next coming days.
